All the Right Moves

Things couldn't be much better for WWF these days. They've managed bring the sport out of the closet were fans were once ashamed to be called fans, directly into the living rooms around the world. Wrestling is no longer portrayed as a sport for overweight beer belching Neanderthals but as fast paced entertainment for the whole family. Today's wrestling allows the fan to be emotionally wrapped around all the plotting & heroics much like a soap opera.

The vast majority of the WWF recent success should be accredited to WWF owner Vince McMahon for his ingenuity to provide a never ending amount twists and turns, which help keep fans on there edge of there seats. It seems what ever the WWF does it turns to gold. Case in point: last fall the WWF lost Stone Cold & Undertaker due to injuries and quite a few in the industry were awaiting the crash landing of the federation but to the surprise of many the WWF was able to substitute these big name stars with likes of The Rock, Triple H and Y2J and become even more popular than ever. I would say it is tougher to get good seats at a WWF live event than it is to get a NFL playoff game.

The rise of the Rock seems to parallel with the rise of the WWF. The Rock is the most dynamic wrestler in the business today. He has the god gifted ability to wrestle and act. It's these acting abilities that have allowed the WWF to attract many women and non wrestling people to fill the arenas or watch at home religiously every Monday & Thursday nights. In my opinion the popularity of the Rock matches and probably surpasses the popularity of Hulk Hogan of the 80's. Much like Hulk Hogan, the Rock has revolutionized wrestling once again, forcing wrestlers to be not only wrestlers but damn good actors.

Looking ahead to the future things couldn't be brighter for the WWF with the imminent return of both the Stone Cold & the Undertaker. I just can't wait for what's in store for the future.

The Ship is Sinking ...

Ratings are down, arenas are 90% empty and the seniors are back. The WCW in recent weeks bas brought back the age old dinosaurs: Hogan, Flare, Funk & Anderson to some how stop the hemorrhaging. Well I got news for you if you haven't noticed yet, the WCW is about a step away from landing into the grave with these billy goats running the show.

Don't get me wrong I strongly believe each of these wrestlers are legendary in there time but there time has long passed bye. Each of these individuals reflect upon the wrestling of the past, all are slow, lethargic, and have a limited arsenal of moves. About the only thing each of these goats have running are there big traps. The unfortunate part is that none of them has the brawn's or skills to back those big words. I think it would be safe to say everyone is sick of seeing Flare vs Hogan, Funk vs Flare or Anderson vs Hogan.

There was a time when the WCW was less concerned about competing with the WWF and more focussed on developing talent. The WCW still has a chance of changing course by allowing some of there young stars come to the fore front on Nitro & Thunder i.e.. The Wall, Vampiro, Kidman, Booker, Tank Abbot and members of the Power Plant. Sure fans will have to adjust to new faces but the quality of the wrestling will improve immensely. Not only will this be great for fans, it will help the pocket books for Time/Warner/AOL when the fans fill the arenas.
