What is the advantage?
Montessori is an attitude, not
simply a teaching system,
not just a technique.
How will Montessori
make a difference to my child?
Your child will become more confident,
outgoing, and self-reliant. Montessori respects your child's personality,
allows her free choice and a healthy dose of independance.
As she progresses at her own pace and successfully completes the
self-correcting exercises, she develops confidence in her abilities.
What is the role of
the teacher?
The teacher is referred to as a dictrectress
because her role differs considerably form that of a traditional
instuctor. She demostrates the correct use of materials,
she carefully watches the children's progress, and keeps
detailed records of their work. She has been trained to
reconize individual periods of readiness.
Why the mixed age
classes?
A child can work with older
children in one area, yonger children in an other area, and still
have social interaction with children her own age.
What are the Sensitive
Periods?
Sensitive periods are described
as periods when the child shows unusual capabilities in aquiring
specific skills. For example between the ages of 3.5 and 4.5 is
the sensitive period for writing.
