What's the Difference
There is more to consider than just speed when
       choosing a Lightspeed Internet connection

Different technologies, better
    choice to fit your lifestyle

We offer both 56k Dial-up Internet and Highspeed ADSL Internet Service. Both systems have pros and cons, so let us help you decide which works best for you.

56k Dial-up Internet Service

Lightspeed's Dial-up Service has been around since the company started back in 1994 and is a proven technology that works. Almost every computer working today can use this form of Internet connection.

Our dial-up service uses an industry standard 56k connection. That means that you can connect at a maximum of 56Kbps (kilobits per second). You can connect through any telephone line so you do not have to be at home. The cost is very inexpensive and is perfect for light web browsing, email and text messaging. Lightspeed's 56k Dial-up Service starts at just $9.95 per month and other packages are available as well. Some customers have been with us for over a decade now and still like the portability and reliability of our 56k system.

The downside of any dial-up connection is the fact that your telephone line is used by your modem to connect to the Internet, so you cannot use the telephone or fax machine while you are connected. Using a dial-up connection is also more time consuming as you have to connect every time you wish to use the Internet as well as the fact that large files and images can take a long time to download.

Advantages
Inexpensive (Starts at $9.95 per month)
Reliable (Over 10 Years of Service)
    Stable (Industry standard used everywhere)
Mobile (Connect through any regular telephone)

Disadvantages
Uses Telephone Line (Cannot use telephone or fax machines when connected)
Slower Connection Speeds (Maximum speed up to 56Kbps)
One Connection At A Time (Only one computer can access the Internet at a time)

Highspeed ADSL Service

The service of choice for a lot of homes in BC and Alberta is Lightspeed's Highspeed ADSL because of its balance between price, flexibility and speed .

ADSL technology has been around for almost a decade and it provides a faster way to connect to the Internet at up to 6Mbps, (megabits per second). Using an external ADSL modem you access the Internet through your local telephone line at your home. Unlike dial-up connections, ADSL does not interfere with your telephone or fax machine, so you can take or make calls while surfing the Internet. Another way ADSL differs from dial-up is that it is always on. If your computer is powered on you are connected to the Internet. There is no waiting to get online or for larger websites to download. ADSL is a perfect fit for people that download music, streaming videos and play games online. Lightspeed's Highspeed ADSL Service is not a mobile solution, you can only connect through a telephone wall jack at your residence. Wireless adapters and network routers make sharing the connection to a multitude of computers easy to do as well. Lightspeed has a variety of ADSL plans starting from just $26.95 per month and some plans have connection speeds up to 8Mbps also available.

Advantages
Talk & Surf (ADSL does not interfere with your telephone)
Always On (You are connected to the Internet 24/7/365)
Faster Speeds (Can be up to 300 times faster than dial-up)
Multiple Users (Many computers can access one single connection)

Disadvantages
Not Mobile (You can only connect through your telephone wall jacks)
